80s Movies That Need Another Look: Manhunter
Manhunter (1986) This thriller from director Michael Mann is one of my favorite movies ever. It is psychological thriller starring William Peterson as a former FBI agent Will Graham who is called back to help with a serial killer. This movie introduced us to Hannibal Lecktor (Brian Cox). I know this will sound like blasphemy but Cox’s rendition of Lecktor is better than Anthony Hopkins. While the movie is not an action film by any stretch, it is so tense throughout that you will be tired when you’re done watching. The movie is also visually beautiful and has a bit of a Miami Vice look to it. Hey, it was the 80s and it’s Michael Mann. You can currently see it on Prime Video.
Additionally, Michael Mann is coming out with a novel to follow his hit movie Heat. In case you didn’t know, the movie features the first on-screen pairing of Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Yes, I know they were both in Godfather II but they did not share screen time. The novel Heat 2 picks up where the movie ends and follows Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer) as he tries to get away and Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) as he tries to hunt him down. The book comes out on August 9 but you can get pre-order pricing from Amazon today. if you want to re-watch Heat it is on PlutoTV or you can rent it on Amazon Prime Video.
